Annointed (1 Samuel 16:1-13)

Tom Demorest, May 29, 2016
Part of the Walking with God series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

FOUNDATIONAL TRUTH:
God is not IMPRESSED by WHAT IMPRESSES US. (1 Sam 16:7)

WHY SAUL WAS WRONG:
He looked to GOD'S POWER for PERSONAL GLORY
He was:
IMPATIENT with God (1 Sam 13)
PRIDEFUL before God (1 Sam 14)
UNREPENTANT to God (1 Sam 15)

WHY DAVID WAS RIGHT:
He offered HIS OWN POWER for GOD'S GLORY
He was:
HUMBLE before God (1 Sam 16:11)
DEPENDENT on God (1 Sam 17:37)
DEDICATED to God (Ps 139:13-16)

CENTRAL TRUTH:
True greatness is not achieved through PURSUING HONOR but through PURSUING GOD'S HONOR.

CLOSING ENCOURAGEMENT:
Live your life to gain the approval of THE ONLY ONE THAT TRULY MATTERS.
